Nu Shooz Orchestra
Pandora's Box
Self-released

Nu Shooz had a shot at action in the eighties and now they're back with an intriguing record. Their style is laid-back and jazz, Valerie Day's sultry vocals playing along nicely.

The dreamy opener "Welcome to my Daydream" sees them at their best, with Days' vocal reaching a pleasant timbre. The title song is a clever song with a gloriously vampy vocal. The instrumentation is wonderfully supple and fluid. "Charade" is a Johnny Mercer song interpreted with verve and sass. "Driftin" is a smart version of an earlier song done in a cool way. The closing rendition of their hit "I Can't Wait" proves that they are highly gifted and well worth a listen.
