Mick Harvey
Four (Acts Of Love)
Mute

Longtime Bad Seed and P.J. Harvey collaborator Mick Harvey also has a solo career that's very distinguished and includes versions of Gainsbourg songs and now this ambitious album. It's divided into there parts, and includes both original songs and well-chosen covers.

"Glorious" was written by P.J. Harvey and sounds gloomy and epically charged. "God Made the Hammer" is a chilling yet abrasive song with restrained vocals by Harvey. Van Morrison's "The way young lovers do" gets a cool reading, Harvey murmuring the words against a forbidding backdrop. "Wild Hearts (run out of time)" by Roy Orbison gets a tender reading that works very well. It's a lovely moment on a perfect album.
