Circe Link
Moody Girl
Black Wings

Circe Link's new record is a real mix of sounds. Opener "Lost and Sinking" is a jazzy stomp that sounds like it was made in the forties. Link's no retro act though; she imbues the style with her own spirit. The mellifluous "Falling on Knives" is a pretty folk-tinged track that brings out the best in her voice. "Breaking Bones" has a gospel tinge to the backing vocals and a nice harmonica part. As unexpected covers go Alice Cooper's "Muscle of Love" rendered, as a swing tune is hard to beat. Link transcends the novelty value and gives us a new song in the old one's clothes. Link's album takes in so many sounds but it does it all so well that it's a classic already.
