Fanfarlo
Talking Backwards (7")
Fortuna Pop

This new London, England based band Fanfarlo (a trio, with a native Swede among them?) is said to be keeping C86 indie pop alive. They're also keeping up the good work along the paths of, say, Arcade Fire.

Their debut single "Talking Backwards" presents a band going forward, with low-voiced, but colourful pop. Yes, Arcade Fire comes quite quickly to my mind, but that isn't the worst you can sound like being related to. The b-side, "Tuesday (you come when we call)", is a bit more twisted and bleak, and music from Elephant 6's great, huge extended family and friends is another reference to drop. Sorry, but it's become difficult to describe music without the common namedropping. Take it as compliments.

It'll be interesting to watch Fanfarlo's next steps. There'll be a new single coming out next month, called "You Are One Of The Few Outsiders Who Really Understands Us". A band of outsiders it is. Speaking of operating no the outside the common pop flow. Which is a good thing.
