Wensday
Torch Rock
Desert Dreams

Wensday counts Alice Cooper as a fan and even covers his song "Only Women Bleed" here but she's hardly into his kind of shock tactics. The sultry-voiced singer calls her style "torch rock" and it's apt since it's slow and stylish.

"Arizona Man" speaks of cowboys and uses a slight country touch but it's all about the torch. "The Rise and Fall of Love" uses a dramatic melody and Wensday's considerable voice to get its point across. The Cooper cover arrives and sounds more feminist in this version, as Wensday puts her own stamp on it.

At times her vocal style can be a tad much as she stretches each syllable to the limit and melodrama threatens to overwhelm the music. Mostly she nails it and it's a confident debut.
