Judith Weikle
Pirates, Poets and Patriots
self-released

Judith Weikle is an American but her debut is steeped in Celtic music. It's not such an odd fit since she has the voice and presence to get away with it.

"Black is the Color of My True Love's Hair" gets rendered respectfully and with great spirit. Weikle's lovely vocals come to the fore here alongside Kate MacLeod's villain. "Farewell to Tarwathie" was written by George Scroogie and is beautifully handled here. "Bonny Portmore" has been done by many but this version has its own spirit. We end with the lovely "Quiet land of Erin" of longing for home.

Weikle may be American but she has a Celtic soul.
