Tiny Vipers
Hands Accross The Void
Sub Pop / Tuba

Here's a thing I don't really understand: the essence of this record?

Maybe I'm getting old, maybe I'm turning sour, maybe I'm just a grumpy fucker in eternal search of the perfect pop-tune? But no, I don't think so.

If I'd lit up a reefer or gotten into barbiturates I might have touched a nerve on one or two of these songs, but I'm just not willing to go there for the sake of searching for it. Sometimes you run into a record that's just not there from the get-go, but you know that it will grow in time. With this one it was more from the intense boredom it overwhelmed me with. I'm a fan of any singer-songwriter that steps up and gives us their heartwrecking best. But here's a total lack of commitment, of strength and of that certain nerve it takes to play it stripped down.

Six times through the whole thing I still haven't recognized a song that takes me away from whatever was on my mind, apart from maybe "Shipwreck".

So, here's what I'm gonna do: I'm gonna pass it on to friends that might be able to lead me on to a track of understanding anything about this collection of sounds. I'll tell you if that happens.
