Jane Lui
Barkentine
self-released

Jane Lui plays gossamer-soft music in a way that brings ones thoughts to Cat Power and her guitar playing can recall that of Jose Gonzalez. The minimalistic approach suits the music very well.

"West In Me" puts piano shivering against a strident, gradually developing rhythm. Lui's multi-tracked vocals are rich and sweet. "Hunter" uses a lovely melody and is quietly stunning with her singing at its finest. "Snowboots in Summer" sues poetic imagery to paint vivid pictures. Lui's precise vocal is lovely in a hushed way.

"Widowmakers" is another deeply moving song, Lui singing as softly as she can. Jane Lui's record is good for the soul.
