Dan Israel
Turning
Eclectone Records

Dan Israel has help from members of Jayhawks, Son Volt and Semisonic but he can stand on his own two feet. He makes a pleasant American/Powerpop brew and pens neat songs.

"Counting On You" is catchy and uses a neat guitar line. "Hurt & Love" has a great rootsy feel and Laurie Lindeen lends a nice harmony vocal. "News To Me" is a great Elvis Costello-like pop song, Israel's sharp vocals at their best. "Song for Africa" drones on and yet avoids easy clichés. Israel's compassion is obvious and touching. Turning is a wonderful record on all levels.
