Dan Baird & Homemade Sin
Dan Baird & Homemade Sin
Jerkin' Crocus

Ever found yourself drunk or stoned, dancing silly sometime in the late 80's to the song "Hippy Hippy Shake"? I bet I have, but I can't remember a thing about it. Well, the band was The Georgia Satellites and the vocalist/guitar player Dan Baird.

No wonder my feet immediately started tapping as soon as this record started to play. There's something so liberating, unpretentious and simply free about this - if you like that sort of thing, that is. I do. It works on the same nerves that gets you going back to your Zeppelin or AC/DC records. Makes you remember why you started loving rock 'n roll in the first place. This is it.

You know, third song in there's a catchy chorus with a line "I'm in love with the radio station playing CCR", and I can't help but loving it. Following that, "Runnin' Outta Time", starts off with a riff that Springsteen might consider stealing and vocals that Jeff Tweedy might already have heard.

This is classic American rock at its best. Plain well-crafted, honest and sincere three chord (with the occasional fourth) rock 'n roll. I suppose I'm saying that this record is a lesson to learn from by any snotty EMO kid out there.
