Mia Doi Todd
Morning Music (with Andres Renteria)
City Zen Records

Mia Doi Todd has made several vocal albums; her first instrumental work follows her previous path of smart folk pop pretty well. Opener "Harmonium One" is a quite, hymnal excursion in splendid loveliness. The voice is hardly missed. "Arise" follows a similar path, being slow and with some gorgeous melodic touches. It cokes an image of a peaceful and calm place.

"Simple Things" has a sweet melody and recalls Doi Todd's earlier work. She really can make great music with small means. This is a terrific little album.
