Jude Johnstone
Quiet Girl
Bo Jak Records

Jude Johnstone continues making great records, this one is in the Americana genre, and starts with a nicely sentimental song that she handles well. "Josephina" is a song with an intriguing lyric about a betrayal that haunts the narrator. Her vocal has a ghost-like quality above a wonderful melody. "Cry for New Orleans" tackles the subject of Katrina with insight and angry defiance that's fitting. The melody is suitably mournful and Johnstone's warm vocals work for the song.

"The Smell of Summer" ends the album on a bittersweet note, as Johnstone sings of lost love. Her voice is a lovely as ever. This is one quite girl you should pay attention to.
