Luluc
Passerby
Sub Pop

Luluc is a folk duo consisting of Zoë Randell and Steve Hassett. Their folk sound is very intimate and puts a focus in Randall's gorgeous vocals very nicely.

"Small Window" opens the proceedings with a slow, utterly beautiful tune that they inhabit well. The title song is another surefire hit, a song that recalls the English folk scene of the seventies. Randell's voice is certainly up for the task. "Tangled Heart" is a song that shows off the band's wonderful songwriting as Randell sings of lost love to a soft backing. It's hardly surprising that they've covered songs by Nick Drake for a tribute album.

The closing "Star" is a dreamy song that sounds very sweet and tender. It's an album not a million miles from Damien Rice's finer moments. It's a lovely album all told.
