My Majestic Star
'and having a reason why'
Hidden Shoal Recordings

'and having a reason why' by dreamy ambient-poppers My Majestic Star is an aperitif lifted from their, uh... his (read: Chris Mason, as MMS is a one-man-band. Mason also plays the duo Glassacre along with Cam Merton) forthcoming sophomore album Too Late, The Day, following the 2006 debut Ideas are the Answer.

My Majestic Star perform shoegaze pop like the Brits did back in the late 1980s, early 1990s, with bands like My Bloody Valentine, Ride, Slowdive, Pale Saints and others. At the time it wasn't really my cup of tea (Pale Saints, yes, but I leaned more against the Wedding Present, the Boo Radleys, the La's - the not so pale faced, a little more extrovert indie pop), and I still question the greatness of some of the acts.

'and having a reason why' is tagged "...dance music for sleepwalkers and dreamers..." by the label, which is a fitting description. This is quite a dreamy, sleep-dazed sound. Yet, I'm not convinced, maybe due to my shoegaze scepticism -- the pale, the lack of blood, the vague and hazy soundscapes. That said I also like dreamy soudscapes. It's just that I'm... not convinced after hearing only this one song.

Too Late, The Day will be released 26th August 2008.
