Annie Barker
...for a better place
Beautiful Revolution

A while back I reviewed Annie Barker's excellent debut album. Now she's back with a strong EP.

Opener "Cruel" sees her reach new heights in her ethereal sound, recalling Cocteau Twins. Since Robin Guthrie's producing it's no big surprise. "Coat off" is beautiful, Baker's soft vocals set against a heavenly backing. It's a gorgeously evoked moment. "Ghetto Birds" is a strong song sung in a floaty kind of a way. Baker's vocals reach new heights. The EP ends with a remix of "Cruel" whetting the appetite for much more.
