Buford Pope
The Poem And The Rose
Buford Pope

Buford Pope a.k.a. Mikael Liljeborg made this album back in 2008, but didn't finish it until now. Pope makes country with a modern flavor, and that hasn't changed.

The opening title track is a beautifully wrought, sad song. "My Heart Don't Lie" is a classic sounding song that recalls Gram Parsons, and that's no small thing. Pope sings it with perfect world-weariness. "At the End of the Week" is a brilliant song, Pope singing of a relationship gone sour and he does it well. "If Ties Don't Bind" closes the album on a good note, Pope singing a sensitive song with a great vocal. The wait has really paid off with this album.
